Zimbabwe's main opposition party re-elected veteran Morgan Tsvangirai as leader today after he called for a wave of mass protests to step up pressure on President Robert Mugabe's government.

The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) in all 12 of Zimbabwe's provinces, plus the party's youth and womens' sections, voted to re-elect Tsvangirai.

There were no challengers.

The vote followed a bitter feud in the MDC which saw rivals to Tsvangirai split off to form their own faction party.
