Traffic volumes are returning to normal following a four-car crash on the M50 northbound this morning which led to long delays.

The collision happened at around 7.45am this morning just before junction 12 at Firhouse.

At one point traffic was tailing back almost 7km  as far as Sandyford, before the exit for junction 13 at Balinteer.  The situation was made worse by a breakdown which happened on the same stretch of road.

There were also delays reported on the Drumartin Link road and all approaches to the Sandyford interchange. In addition, traffic was at a standstill on all approaches to Sandyford Industrial Estate.

M50 southbound was also very slow from J7 at Lucan to J12 at Firhouse and the Scholarstown road was delayed back to Grange road as a result of the crash.

The road was cleared at approximately 9.40 am and AA Roadwatch report that traffic volumes are now close to normal.
