A German tourist was rescued from Lough Ree on the River Shannon last night after a cruiser carrying three men ran aground on Priests Island.

The Lough Ree rescue boat recovered two men from the cruiser after a call was received by the Irish Coast Guard Marine Rescue at around 8pm.

A search then began for a third man, who had left the cruiser in a dinghy to seek assistance.
