Two men and a woman are being questioned tonight following a major security operation close to the Irish border against suspected dissident republican terrorists.

The three were arrested when police stopped a car on the outskirts of Derry. As army bomb disposal experts were called in to examine the vehicle on the Letterkenny Road, police said the three were being held in relation to serious crime.

Security sources disclosed that the operation was mounted in a bid to disrupt alleged 'Real IRA' units in the area.

One said: "This is ongoing and we hope to find something in the car."
