Three men appeared last night at a special sitting of Cahir District Court following the seizure of cannabis resin with an estimated street value of £5 million at Kilcoran, on the Cork road outside Cahir, Co Tipperary, on Saturday.

Shortly after 8 p.m. the three men, with Cork city addresses, appeared before Judge Michael Patwell. They were charged under Section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act (1977-1984) in connection with the seizure of 500 kilos of cannabis resin.

Mr Roger O'Callaghan (61) of Foyle Avenue, Knocknaheany; Mr Billy Loftus (22) of Oakdale, Ballyvolane; Mr Jason Driscoll (23), Green Street, were remanded in custody at Limerick Prison to appear at Tipperary District Court tomorrow. A fourth man was still being detained last night.
