A 23-year-old man suffered fatal injuries when his car crashed at Tullylorcan, Beglieve in Co Cavan at about 1.30am today. The man, who was alone in his car, was taken to Cavan General Hospital where he died this morning.

There were no other vehicles involved.

In Co Kerry, a 27-year-old woman died in a single car crash at Irrebeg, outside Lixnaw at about 3.30am.

She was the front seat passenger in the car, which was carrying five other people.

One was uninjured in the crash but four others were taken to Kerry General Hospital . Two were later released and the remaining two are said to be in a stable condition.

Last night, a motorcyclist was fatally injured in a collision with a car at Newcastle, Castletroy. The 37-year-old man was taken to Limerick Regional Hospital where he died a short time later.

The road was closed for several hours after the crash, which took place at 7pm.
