Gardaí in Wexford have arrested three men in connection with the discovery of an explosive device.

Three men have been arrested as part of an ongoing inquiry into dissident republican activity in Co Wexford, it has emerged.

The men, who were known to gardaí, were detained after the discovery of a pipe bomb in the car park of a public house in Ballcogley Co Wexford yesterday morning.

It is understood the device had been transferred between two vehicles at the time of the arrest of two of the men.

A third man was detained six miles away in the village of Murrintown, a short time later.

The men - in their 30s, 40s and 50s - are being held under Section 30 of the Offence Against the State can be held for 72 hours.
