Ankara - Tens of thousands of civilians and soldiers marched throughout Turkey yesterday in a large display of support for a secular establishment that faces a growing Islamist protest movement.

Large gatherings also took place in Istanbul, in Diyarbakir, capital of the mainly Kurdish south-east, and else where.
