Thousands of people have been left homeless and at least 14 have died, with dozens more missing, after torrential rain burst two dams in Nigeria.

The dams are located the north of the country near the Wudil River.

Many people are taking shelter in schools and public buildings on higher ground.

Many homes in Wudil, a city of tens of thousands, are flooded.

The rain started on Monday, washing away thatched mud houses in at least eight villages, officials say.
