THERE is still time to move trees and shrubs. Perhaps other gardeners always manage to get things in the right place first time, but some of us do not: Besides, there is much pleasure in rearranging plants - rather like rearranging furniture. When plants are young and have not become well established, this need not he an awesome task.
In moving or planting roses we must remember the business of rose replant disease. It simply means that we may not put a rose into the same spot which was occupied by another rose. If roses must be replaced, the soil should he changed and at least a barrow-load of soil removed and exchanged with soil from elsewhere in the garden.
As usual with woody plants which are expected to settle and grow away contentedly for years and years, proper preparation, digging and feeding must he adhered to. Sadly this is one area too many gardeners skimp on. Be kind, generous and loving - you will he amply repaid.
