Aung San Suu Kyi is the daughter of a Burmese "warrior statesman", a hero of his country's independence movement who was assassinated when she was two years old. She married an Englishman and brought up their family in Britain, but returned to her homeland in 1988 to or anise a democratic party which won a big electoral victory in 1990, yet has been denied the fruits of office by the Burmese military junta. A Buddhist and a clear eyed intellectual, she was harassed regularly and spent some years under house arrest, but still managed to win a Nobel Peace Prize. Her struggles, her faith, and her continuing hopes for her country are set out in this series of conversations with Alan Clements, who is himself an American Buddhist.
