The parents of a 16-year-old boy have issued an urgent appeal today for a heart donation which could save their son's life.

Steven Doyle from Co Monaghan is in a critical condition in the intensive care unit of Dublin's Mater Hospital.

He only discovered six months ago he was suffering from an enlarged heart, which places extreme stress on his heart's muscles.

Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Irelandthis morning Steven's father Ken said the only hope for his son was if a donor heart becomes available in the next few days.
