A new study will examine the implications of ageing trends in Ireland, which currently project that more than half of all baby girls born today in Ireland will live to the age of 100 or over.

The first Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (Tilda), led by Trinity College, will be launched on Monday. It will study 10,000 people over a 10-year period.

The study will try to examine and understand the trend in ageing in Ireland and its implications for economic, social and healthcare planning.

Researchers believe this understanding is crucial to ensure that the experience of ageing in Ireland is healthy, happy and financially secure.
