The Southern Health Board is to screen people who were in contact with a healthcare worker at Cork University Hospital who has infectious tuberculosis (TB).
The worker, who had been in contact with children at the hospital, is being treated for the condition. A team of medical experts in the region has been set up to assess the risk of infection to the worker's contacts.
A health board spokesperson said the situation was being taken very seriously and was under control.
Tuberculosis is an infectious disease with an incubation period of six to nine months. The health board said it was important to ensure at risk were screened at an appropriate time.
