Taxi driver unions are to meet the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA)  today in their dispute over a proposed €500 levy for drivers hiring at the airport.

The taxi drivers are opposed to the size of the levy, which was supposed to be introduced yesterday alongside the new national fares structure for taxis.

Taxi drivers had threatened to withhold payment of the annual fee for using the facility.

The drivers' union representatives met the last week and asked that the fee be deferred for a month to allow further talks to take place.

The DAA then issued a statement saying it had agreed not to impose the levy for a two-week period from yesterday "to allow further time for the issues concerned to be discussed with the taxi regulator".
