Washington - Talks on the details of a multi-billion dollar fund to compensate former Nazi slave and forced labourers failed yesterday, but US and German negotiators agreed to meet again later this month.
"We did not quite reach the goal we had set for ourselves," chief German negotiator Mr Otto Graf Lambsdorff told reporters, after two days of sometimes heated discussions over how to pay out the capped DM10 billion ($5 billion dollar) fund.
But both Mr Lambsdorff and his US counterpart, Deputy Treasury Secretary Stuart Eizenstat, said "significant progress" had been made and that all sides would return to the table in Berlin on March 22nd and 23rd.
