Taking on 'the scum of the universe'

I suppose it was only a matter of time before a game based on the hit movie Men In Black landed in the stores. Tommy Lee Jones, Will Smith and Linda Fiorentino are back to take on the "scum of the universe" and now you too have joined the ranks of MIB.

The game begins with you playing the role of New York cop James Edwards (Will Smith) but in ensuing missions, of which there are four (New York, Arctic, Amazon and the Pacific north west), you can choose to be any one of the three stars.

Before each mission you'll be briefed on the task ahead and here you can also brush up on your shooting skills. Apart from your standard firearm there is the Noisy Cricket, Series 4 Deatomiser, Pulsar Arm Cannon, Pulsar Blaster, Reverberating Carboniser and Neuralysers, with all sorts of alien-like creatures from Chubbies to semi-organic Sentinels to dispose of. The gameplay involves a lot of the standard action/adventure fare such as puzzle solving, finding keys, getting power-ups, etc and the graphics are up to scratch for the genre.

That said, the enemies are a little slow when it comes down to it and the restricted movement of the characters, coupled with a linear style of gameplay, detracts somewhat from the overall experience. It's a bit like a low-budget Resident Evil, to be honest.

Therefore, unless you are an absolute MIB fanatic steer clear, there are far better action/adventure games to choose from.
