Synthetic psychoactive drugs with an estimated value of €800,000 were seized by gardaí and Revenue Customs officers in Waterford today.

A 32-year-old man in possession of the synthetic drug was arrested by gardaí at O’Connell Street , Waterford shortly after 1pm. A further quantity of the synthetic drug was discovered during a follow-up operation.

Some 23kgs of the drug was seized at an apartment in the city, a spokeswoman for the with Revenue’s Customs Service said.

The haul followed the controlled delivery of a parcel which had arrived into Cork Airport from China. The joint operation was led by the Garda National Drugs Unit and the Waterford divisional drugs unit in conjunction with Revenue’s Customs Service

The man is being held at Waterford Garda station.
