Johannesburg - A black South African farm labourer said yesterday a white farmer beat him up for driving a cart pulled by two donkeys - one black and one white. His cart carried a sign: "The new South Africa". Mr Thomas Lebepe (41) was on his way home when the farmer assaulted him, shouting: "Why do you have a white donkey and a kaffir [derogatory word for black] one at the same time?" Lebepe said he would not stop driving his cart.
