The man's face was slashed twice and the woman was stabbed in the abdomen. Shane Walsh (18), of Rathsallagh Park, Shankill, Dublin, pleaded guilty to assaulting Mr Jack Wall, Ms Joyce Wall and Mr Raymond O'Toole at Rathsallagh Park, Shankill, Dublin on May 18th, 1997.

Garda Mark O'Neill told the court that the Walls were relaxing in their home with Mr Raymond O'Toole and his wife shortly before 3 a.m. Mr Wall opened the back door after hearing a knock and he and his wife were attacked. Mr O'Toole was also assaulted.

Gardai went to the Walsh family home across the road and the defendant admitted the offence. He said he had been taunted by the couple about the death of his older brother in a car accident.

Mr Colm O Briain, defending, said his client had suffered severe emotional problems since his brother's death and had been persuaded to commit the offence by the other assailant, who had fled the jurisdiction.

Sentence was adjourned to November 1st, 1999.
