A man who attempted to cash forged cheques in several banks, including one where he tried to obtain £8,600, was given a six month suspended jail sentence yesterday. Before the Dublin District Court was Brendan O'Reilly (35), of Balcurris Road, Ballymun, who pleaded guilty to committing the offences at banks in the city centre between February and October last year.

Judge David Riordan ordered the six month sentence to be suspended on condition that O'Reilly carry out community service work and be of good behaviour for 12 months.
