A sports co-ordinator who took money from unemployed people who did his course, as well as from South Dublin County Council, has received a suspended sentence.

Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard that Michael Browne (37), Kiltipper Gate, Tallaght, had charged fees totalling €4,610 for a course that had been paid for by Fás. He also took a cheque for €1,458 from the council after making out a false invoice.

Judge Patricia Ryan suspended the three-year sentence.
