There is substantial support for the proposal being considered at the Convention on the Future of Europe for the drafting of a new EU constitution setting out the Union's fundamental values and procedures, according to the Irish Times/MRBI opinion poll.
Some 47 per cent support the idea, 14 per cent are against, and 39 per cent have no opinion.
A similarly high proportion of voters - 40 per cent - have no opinion on the proposal to establish two presidents in the EU, one of the Commission and the other of the Council of Ministers.
Some 34 per cent are in favour of the proposal with 26 per cent against.
A significantly higher proportion of younger voters in the 18-24 age group have no opinion on these two issues before the Convention, compared to older voters.
On the proposal for an EU constitution, 47 per cent of younger voters had no opinion compared to 38 per cent among those aged 25-49, 36 per cent of those aged 50-64 and 39 per cent of the over-65s.
