LONDON - Exposure to hot sunlight can make dirty water safe to drink, Irish doctors said yesterday. The discovery, which could revolutionise sanitation in the Third World, was made by a team of Irish doctors during research with polluted bottled water in Kenya.

The team from the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin found that children drinking from plastic bottles were one third less likely to suffer diarrhoea if the containers had first been left exposed to the sun.
