Sub-post office owners begin a ballot today on industrial action that could cause widespread disruption.

Sub-post office owners begin a ballot today on industrial action that could cause widespread disruption.

The Irish Postmasters' Union (IPU), whose members operate about 1,500 sub-post offices, are in dispute with An Post over bank holiday working.

If the action is approved, sub-post offices will not open out of hours to allow sorting to take place.

The union has also threatened a full withdrawal of services.
