A LEAVING Cert student was recovering at home in Donegal yesterday after he was viciously beaten and kidnapped in an apparent case of “mistaken identity”.

The 17-year-old was returning to his home near Newmills, Letterkenny at about 11.15pm on Wednesday night in his father’s car when he was ambushed by a number of masked men. He was dragged from the car and severely assaulted.

The youth sustained a broken arm as well as bruising to his ribs, head and body.

He was released from Letterkenny General Hospital on Friday and is still said to be in a state of shock following his ordeal.

A Garda spokesman appealed for anyone with any information or who may noticed anything sus-picious in the Letterleague or Drimanaught areas on Wednesday night to contact Letterkenny gardaí, tel 91 22222.
