Crossing the Liffey via the East Link and West Link bridges may be free next Wednesday if strike action planned by staff at National Toll Roads goes ahead.

It is understood the company has no plans to close the bridges, as this would cause major disruption to traffic. The bridges will stay open, but they will not be staffed by toll collectors. A spokeswoman for SIPTU said picketing of the toll booths would be unlikely. About 130 workers are seeking improved pay and conditions outside the terms of the PPF.
