The Wexford Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (WSPCA) said it had no option but to put down a donkey which was found in a distressed state in a laneway in Wexford.

The society said an inspector found the aged donkey, which was injured and emaciated due to starvation, and that magpies had begun feeding upon it. It is believed it was dumped in the Waddingtown area.
