St Patrick's Athletic this afternoon said Charles Mbabazi Livingstone has been properly registered all season and that there is no grounds for a points deduction.
The registration row began when league authorities, reacting to a discovery made by Shelbourne Chief Executive Ollie Byrne, requested St Pat's to examine the Ugandan striker's registration.
League Commissioner Roy Dooney originally gave the club until yesterday to explain itself and then extended the deadline till today. This afternoon, St Pats delivered their reply.
It is believed this reply is based on the fact the club furnished the league authorities with a copy of Livingstone's two-year contract when he joined the club in 2000.
Under league rules the player would not have to be re-registered until that contract expires or he is offered new terms. It is believed the recent confusion arose because, due to an error, Livingstone's registration form was not made out for the full duration of his contract.
In the latest twist in an increasingly chaotic season for the National League, St Pat's have filed an official protest over the board of control's decision to postpone last week's match between St Pat's and Bohemians at less than 48 hours' notice.
That match has been re-scheduled for March 26th, but St Pat's are demanding they be awarded the three points without having to play.
Earlier this week, Bohemians announced their intention to sue St Pat's manager Pat Dolan over comments attributed to him in the media.
