Gardai on the Sligo-Mayo border have said they received a good response to appeals for information over the death of Mr Eddie Fitzmaurice (83), whose body was found in his home in Bellaghy last Wednesday.

Checkpoints were set up in the area at the weekend and questionnaires were distributed in Bellaghy village and neighbouring Charlestown.

A widower and well-known draper, Mr Fitzmaurice was found gagged and bound in an upstairs bedroom, where he died from hypothermia. Neighbours had not seen him for some days.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact the Garda incident room in Charlestown at (094) 54104, the Garda Confidential line at 1800 666111 or Crimestoppers at 1800 250025.
