Lisbon - Six people were killed in heavy rains that battered northern and central Portugal at the weekend, according to a final toll released yesterday by the national civil protection service.

Yesterday rescue workers found the bodies of four people previously listed as missing - one woman, her two daughters and a man in his 70s - in the mud in the north of the country. A man was killed on Saturday when his car fell into a ravine after a landslip in the Mesao Frio region. Another man in his 70s was killed while out cycling in the central Seia region.
