Six people were hospitalised after another serious road crash on the Inishowen Peninsula, Co Donegal.

The latest incident, in which at least two of the passengers were seriously injured, is just four miles from the scene of a major crash last July outside Clonmany in which eight people died.

The crash happened on Sunday evening on the road between Ballyliffin and Carndonagh at the townland of Rasheney. The collision between a four-wheel-drive vehicle and a Volkswagen Passat happened at about 6.40pm. One of the six injured is understood to be a child.

Gardaí yesterday kept the crash area sealed off to carry out a full investigation.
