SIX PEOPLE were in custody in Garda stations across Limerick last night following a number of firearms and drugs seizures.

Three firearms, ammunition and €400,000 worth of cocaine were seized during a search operations carried out over a 24-hour period.

A handgun, a pump-action shotgun and a small amount of ammunition were seized at about 9pm on Tuesday following searches in the St Senan’s Street area of St Mary’s Park. Two men aged in their 30s and 40s were arrested. They were being held at Henry Street Garda station last night.

A sawn-off shotgun was seized following searches in the Ballynanty area of the city early yesterday, and two juveniles were arrested. They were released without charge.

Separately, a third juvenile was taken into custody after gardaí attended the scene of an arson attack in the same area early yesterday. According to gardaí, petrol was poured into the letter box of a house on Moylish Road in Ballynanty at around 4am yesterday. Nobody was injured in the incident, which is linked to the earlier discovery of the shotgun.

Two more juveniles were arrested yesterday afternoon on suspicion of making threats to the owners of the house on Tuesday night, and they are expected to appear in court today.

Meanwhile, as part of a separate operation, gardaí from Bruff, assisted by Limerick City gardaí,­ seized 4kgs of cocaine at a house at Murroe, Co Limerick, late last night. The estimated street value of the seizure is €400,000. One man in his 20s was arrested and was being held at Bruff Garda station last night.
