The bodies of four adults and two children were found by police who broke into a Memphis, Tennessee, house.
Officers said they were treating the case as a multiple homicide but otherwise released little information.
Three children, all seriously ill, were also found having been being stabbed or shot. Two children, aged seven and four, and a 10-month-old baby were taken to hospital.
The victims had been shot, and at least one of the children had been stabbed, police said.
