Singer George Murphy (19) followed a man home and assaulted him after being called "that queer from the telly" during a row in a takeaway, a court heard yesterday.

The former You're a Star contestant yesterday agreed to pay €1,000 compensation to the man after pleading guilty to assault. He will have to wait until June 28th to know if another charge linked to the incident, dangerous driving, will be heard. Dublin District Court heard Mr Murphy and two of his friends got into "a verbal altercation" with other people in the takeaway in Drumcondra at about 4.30am on October 29th.

David Cullen (19), Montrose Grove, Artane, and Eoghan McHale (19), Newgrove Estate, Donaghmede, both Dublin, also admitted assaulting James Pollard, Oldtown, Santry, and will each pay €250 compensation.
