Showband star Doc Carroll (64) dies in Dublin

Legendary showband performer Doc Carroll died in St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin last night after a lengthy illness.

Legendary showband performer Doc Carroll died in St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin last night after a lengthy illness.

A native of Ballinarobe Co. Mayo, Mr Carroll lived most of his life in Athlone. He was well known for his act, the Royal Blues band, and enjoyed great success during the 60s and 70s.

Mr Carroll is survived by his wife Mary and family.
