FG TD Alan Shatter wrote to the Freedom of Information Office in the Department of Justice in December seeking the names recommended by the Whittaker committee for the Human Rights Commission. On January 4th he got a reply declining his request, as the confidentiality guaranteed to applicants outweighed the public interest. The names had already appeared in the papers.
