Sinn Fein's general election candidate for the North Belfast constituency, Mr Gerry Kelly, is to be charged with two technical assaults arising from an Orange protest, the Northern Ireland Office confirmed yesterday.

Mr Kelly faces the charges as a result of a demonstration over a contentious parade in north Belfast on June 21st last year. The two technical assault charges involve alleged offences against two RUC constables.
