SF expects 2,000 to attend Dublin ardfheis

Up to 2,000 Sinn Féin members are expected to attend the party's ardfheis that begins in Dublin tomorrow.

The three-day conference, which is getting live RTÉ coverage for the first time on Saturday, will discuss the difficulties in the peace process and the restoration of power-sharing in the North.

Mr Aongus O'Snodaigh said his party's membership in Dublin had grown by 25 per cent over the past 18 months and said they hoped to extend the ardfheis to three or four days in the coming years.

Mr O'Snodaigh said international representation was expected from Australia, Austria, the Basque Country, Catalonia, Chile, Cuba, Denmark, France, Japan, Galicia, Germany, Palestine, Portugal, Russia, Scotland, South Africa, and the United States.

The British Ambassador has not been invited to the ardfheis because of the "outstanding issue" of the British presence in Northern Ireland.

The ardfheis will begin tomorrow and end on Sunday at the RDS.
