A Dublin man is to be sentenced on March 21st for sexually assaulting two girls last year. The 29 year old man pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court yesterday to sexually assaulting the girls, who are now 13, on two occasions each on June 28th, 1996.
After the man entered these guilty pleas a jury was sworn in to try him on further counts of rape and unlawful carnal knowledge in relation to one of the girls. But as the trial was due to start, prosecution counsel Mr Feargal Kavanagh told Mr Justice Flood the State was withdrawing the outstanding charges.
Mr Justice Flood remanded the defendant in continuing custody and requested a probation report. He also requested the preparation of victim impact reports on the girls.
