Several people, including a police officer, were today hurt during clashes at a loyalist band parade in Belfast.

Trouble flared at Royal Avenue in the city centre as an Apprentice Boys' procession passed by.

Police said the officer suffered a back injury while one man was taken to hospital with a minor eye injury.

The incident came after 10 police officers were wounded during vicious sectarian rioting between rival loyalist and nationalist mobs in the east of the city. PA
