The sentencing of the killer of journalist Eugene Moloney has been brought forward because it falls on the anniversary of Mr Moloney’s death.

Gary Burch (21), Kennington Close, Templeogue, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to the unlawful killing of Mr Moloney on Camden Street on June 24th, 2012.

Last month Judge Mary Ellen Ring set a sentence date for June 24th next with the consent of both parties. The prosecution yesterday said that this was exactly a year after the killing and was unsuitable “for obvious reasons”.

Judge Ring said she would deal with the matter “whenever the parties are ready” and she put the matter in for June 17th.
