A second man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing that left the son of Donegal publican Frank Shortt critically injured.
The man (35) was arrested at a checkpoint near Emyvale, Co Monaghan today.
Kristian Shortt (28) was found injured at a flat on Upper Main Street in Letterkenny early yesterday morning. It is understood he had been stabbed at least 13 times.
Mr Shortt was taken to Letterkenny General Hospital. He has since been transferred to St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin where his condition is described as critical but stable.
A Dublin man (34) was arrested at the scene. He was taken to Milford Garda station where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act before being released last night.
A second man, also from Dublin, was arrested in Co Monaghan overnight. He is being questioned at Monaghan Garda Station where he is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Frank Shortt spent three years in prison after being wrongly convicted of allowing drugs to be sold in his Point Inn nightclub at Quigley's Point, in Inishowen, Co Donegal.
He was awarded €4.7 million compensation from the State after his release.
