Gardai have confirmed they carried out two searches in relation to the death of a woman in a canal in Co Kildare last month.

Yvonne O'Shea, who was in her 30s, died after she went into the water in the Grand Canal between Vicarstown and Athy on Saturday November 22nd.

A man in his 40s was also taken from the water and was brought to the Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise.

The couple's four children were in a car nearby, and it was believed the car had broken down shortly before the woman drowned.

A Garda spokesman said a "thorough" investigation was being carried out into the circumstances of Ms O'Shea's death.

As part of that investigation, two searches were carried out yesterday, one in Dublin and one in Kildare.

No arrests were made, he said.
