A body was tonight found on a Northern Ireland beach in the area of a search for a missing man.

The discovery was made at St John's Point, Dundrum in Co Down where Belfast Coastguard had led lifeboat crews, an RAF helicopter and police aircraft in the hunt for a 31-year-old from Downpatrick.

The search began earlier today after a relative reported him missing to police.

Belfast Coastguard deputy district controller Mr Alan Pritchard said the missing man's car had been located during an earlier search.
