A Scottish man was remanded in custody at a special sitting of Navan District Court last night charged with stealing £1,180 from a priest in Co Leitrim.

Mr John Shane Cronin (25), of Windygaul Crescent, Tranent, East Lothian, Scotland, was charged with stealing the cash from Canon Sean Rooney, at Mohill, Co Leitrim, on June 2nd.

Judge John Brophy assigned him a solicitor under the free legal aid system.
