The home of the alleged British army agent known as Stakeknife was at the centre of a security alert yesterday.

British army bomb disposal experts were called in to carry out a controlled explosion on a suspect device which police later claimed to be an "elaborate hoax". However, Sinn Féin said they believed the device was a pipe bomb.

The house at Riverdale Park North, Andersonstown, west Belfast, is owned by Mr Freddie Scappaticci,

who has denied being an agent who worked for British intelligence.

Former Sinn Féin Belfast lord mayor mr Alex Maskey said: "Mr Scappaticci and his family should be left to get on with their lives in peace."
