A satellite navigation system was stolen from a cardiac response vehicle in an overnight break-in in Co Antrim.

Police said the car was parked outside the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald when at 5am it was discovered that two windows had been smashed in the vehicle.

Ulster Hospital spokeswoman Joan McCallon said the break-in had put lives at risk. "We've had to take the car off the road now because it's obviously been damaged.

"It is with the garage and we would hope to have it back in operation later this evening," she said. Cardiac cars carry special equipment and are used to reach patients ahead of ambulances to administer emergency care.
