Ryanair has said it will proceed with a High Court action against Siptu unless it confirms it will not take airport strike action again.

Speaking at the High Court this morning, Ryanair's head of personnel, Mr Eddie Wilson, said Siptu had closed or threatened closure to Dublin airport three times in nine months

"The Aer Rianta monopoly has repeatedly failed to provide necessary fire cover, in order to keep the runways open," he said.

"This is no way to run Ireland's international airport, and it is unacceptable that Aer Rianta still have no effective contingency plan to keep the runways open and allow ordinary passengers to travel during periods of industrial unrest.

Mr Wilson said the airline had written to Siptu and said if it received confirmation that "there will be no more airport closures" then it would withdraw the action.

Ryanair began proceedings against Siptu earlier this month when the union threatened to close the State's three airports on March 18th over Government plans on the future of Aer Rianta.
