RYANAIR says it will introduce a low fare from Kerry Airport to London Stansted from June 13th next.
The new route will offer a return fare of £79 and place 100,000 seats on the market with daily flights. Ryanair says the cheapest fare currently available between Kerry and London is £108.
At the launch in Tralee last night, Mr Tim Jeans, Ryanair's commercial director, said: "Munster has never been truly able to maximise its potential as a holiday and short-break destination from the UK due to its relative inaccessibility.
Much has been done to develop the region in terms of tourism infrastructure, and Ryanair intends to build on this work by providing tourists with access to the region at the lowest possible air fares."
Dr Denis Brosnan, the Kerry Group chief executive who is also chairman of Kerry Holidays, said the opening of Kerry's first jet service to London was welcome news for holidaymakers and Kerry people who have called for such a service over the past few years.
He expected the development would generate an extra £4 million in tourist spending in the region in the first year of operation.
Ryanair said last night that it would be announcing details of further route developments soon.
